Maria Minerva is an intriguing artist. When listening to her latest release, ‘Sacred & Profane Love’, you wonder if this was the same artist that produced ‘Cabaret Cixous’. ‘Sacred & Profane Love’ is a soulful, late-night-listen type of record, influenced by an array of dance genres witnessed on tracks like Gloria and A Love so Strong. Cabaret Cixous is more playful and atmospheric which isnt’t confined to obvious song structure, like the tracks on S&P. But from listening to the two, it’s very clear Minerva is an evolving artist and not content with sitting on her sound. Each release seems to expose another side of her musical mind and it will be interesting to see the progression on her next record.
Check out ‘Another Time, Another Place’ and see how the song twists and turns as each sound is introduced, producing a beautifully layered and complex dance record.
