Urban Poetry
Maria Minerva is an Estonian born, London resident, who produces a fantastical dubbed out pop and who is signed to Amanda Brown's Not Not Fun label. This video was recorded on a journey from Stoke Newington to New Cross, from a hand held camera. It is supposed to represent a type of 'Urban Poetry', the title of the track and the video tell a story of Minerva's early life in London.
When reading her interviews, it could be easy to dismiss her work and the person. She comes from the same school of thought as John Maus (some Derrida jargon), and although I sometimes find it difficult to see Maus' theory in his music, in Minerva's, I can appreciate the concept and how it influences her work.
Whatever you think of the person or the theory, I think this is an interesting track, which speaks for itself and the video is a perfect accompaniment.
Check out her other records on this weeks boombox.
